Songwriter and guitarist Mike Fuller spent much of the pandemic like many of us– floating in existential dread, contemplating life and his future. Fuller managed to bust through his own self-constructed roadblocks when he released his debut, The Human Condition EP, in September 2020, but there remained more from life to contemplate and push the metaphorical rock up the hill once again.
And so we have Fuller’s follow-up pandemic-inspired project, The Missed Connection EP. After a few months of recording in Brooklyn, NY in early 2021, Fuller was joined by Jordan Rose on drums (Theo Katzman, Cory Wong, Caleb Hawley) and Andy Hess on bass (The Black Crowes, Gov’t Mule) to complete his newest project.
The trio of songs were written over the course of a decade, and were finally recorded, together, in early 2021.
Collectively, these songs showcase a coming-of-age journey through distance and time. Detailing romantic entanglements and trials and tribulations, Fuller’s experiences led to where he is now—an engaged man in love.
If The Human Condition EP debut was a mellow, sensory declaration, The Missed Connection EP is an emotional breakout. With Rose and Hess, Fuller’s brought the attitude and melody of blues rock to the dance floor. This trio of songs shares the explosiveness of sound akin to Gary Clark Jr., John Mayer Trio, and Theo Katzman, but they’re all Mike Fuller.
Fuller’s rock and roll roots run deep. The son of a church organist and a cover band singer/rock and roll enthusiast, it seems only natural Fuller would follow the musical path laid by his parents and find himself writing a collection of uptempo, foot-stomping tunes.
Prior to the release of The Human Condition EP, Fuller hosted an Instagram Live concert series, cheekily titled “Quarantunes,” where he connected fellow musicians from across the U.S. to raise money for a variety of charities responding to our COVID-19 pandemic. “Quarantunes” raised $3.5k+ in ten weeks, and took Fuller to virtual stages alongside Robert Randolph, Ryan Montbleau, Danny Black (Good Old War), Womack (Futurebirds), Andrew Michael Burri (Lucius), Katie Toupin (Houndmouth), Oliver Bates Craven (The Stray Birds), Caleb Hawley, Sean Walsh (The National Reserve), Ben Wyeth (Brand, Hockey) and Ali Awan.
